NPAR to Launch New Health & Wellness Expo for Seniors
If you’ve enjoyed the Northville Senior Fest in the past, you won’t want to miss the brand-new Northville Senior Services Health & Wellness Expo, set to launch on Thursday, October 10th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northville Community Center.
The Expo aims to engage older adults and educate them on the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle, while also addressing the health concerns that come with aging. This event will introduce attendees to the new programs that Senior Services has recently rolled out to help keep seniors healthy and happy.
When | Where | Cost |
10/10/2024 10am – 2pm | Northville Community Center 303 W. Main St., Northville MI 48167 | $15 – Residents $18 – Non Residents |
While the Expo will still feature vendor tables like in previous years, several new elements have been added. These include fun fitness class demonstrations, a Kroger Health vaccine clinic, door prize raffles, and live entertainment from Suzi Marsh. Participants will also enjoy a delicious, healthy lunch.
“We are still going to have dancing and the party atmosphere,” said Senior Services Supervisor Debbie Giulianelli-Smith. “We are excited for this new emphasis, which has an educational element to it.”
Senior Services has recently expanded its fitness and enrichment programs to further promote social well-being. The Expo will spotlight these offerings, encouraging attendees to maintain a healthy lifestyle while having fun.
The timing of the Health & Wellness Expo couldn’t be better. Currently, one-quarter of Michigan’s population is aged 65 or older, and the state is experiencing what is referred to as a “silver tsunami.” This year alone, 4.1 million Americans are turning 65, and this trend will continue every year through 2027, marking the largest wave of retirement-age Americans in history. Northville Township is also seeing its population grow older, with the largest growth area projected to be those aged 85 and older by 2045, increasing by 86%, according to SEMCOG.
This shift in demographics is why Senior Services is placing a new focus on health and well-being, according to Giulianelli-Smith. It also explains the inclusion of a prevention aspect at the Expo, such as the Kroger Health vaccine clinic.
“By having this in October, which is often the start of flu season, we are giving those who want it the opportunity to get vaccinated,” she said.
Northville Senior Services, a division of Northville Parks & Recreation, will host the Expo at the Northville Community Center, located at 303 W. Main St.
This full day of activities costs $15 for residents and $18 for non-residents. To register, visit https://npar.info/3SC57HM.
“Our community is so active that this new Expo makes sense,” said Northville Parks & Recreation Director Derek O. Smith. “We expect the community to embrace this magical day planned just for them.”
